k-Dependent Electronic Structure, a Large “Ghost” Fermi Surface, and a Pseudogap in a Layered Magnetoresistive Oxide

چکیده
The k-dependent electronic structure of the low temperature ferromagnetic state of La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7 was measured using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and calculated using the local spin density approximation (LSDA). The measured near-Fermi energy states display E vs k and symmetry relationships which agree relatively well with the LSDA prediction through much of the Brillouin zone, and the locus of lowest energy excitations matches the predicted large Fermi surface quite well. However, the spectral features are too broad to be well described as Fermi-liquid-like quasiparticles, and they are strongly suppressed from the Fermi energy, i.e., there is a pseudogap in the excitation spectrum. We discuss the spectral properties in terms of strong coupling to a local effect such as a lattice distortion. [S0031-9007(98)06522-3]

Fermi surface nesting and nanoscale fluctuating charge/orbital ordering in colossal magnetoresistive oxides.
We used high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to reveal the Fermi surface and key transport parameters of the metallic state of the layered colossal magnetoresistive oxide La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7. With these parameters, the calculated in-plane conductivity is nearly one order of magnitude larger than the measured direct current conductivity. This discrepancy can be accounted for by ...

We review our angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) results on different layered oxide superconductors, and on their insulating parent compounds. The low energy excitations are discussed with emphasis on some of the most recent issues, such as the Fermi surface and remnant Fermi surface, the pseudogap and d-wave-like dispersion, and lastly the signatures in the ARPES spectra of mult...

We report a high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopic study of the electron-doped ( n-type) cuprate superconductor Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4. We observe regions along the Fermi surface where the near- E(F) intensity is suppressed and the spectral features are broad in a manner reminiscent of the high-energy "pseudogap" in the underdoped p-type (hole doped) cuprates. However, instead of ...
متن کاملThe Angle Resolved Photoemission Pseudogap and Anomalous Background of Underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ as Evidence for a Fermi Level Band Crossing
We show that the unusual observations of a pseudogap in the normal state of underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (BiSCO) using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is consistent with a new band structure for the cuprate superconductors in which the x − y and z bands are seen to cross at the Fermi level. Limitations in the experimental method prevent the narrow 3D z band from being fully reso...

The magnetic field-induced changes in the conductivity of metals are the subject of intense interest, both for revealing new phenomena and as a valuable tool for determining their Fermi surface. Here we report a hitherto unobserved magnetoresistive effect in ultra-clean layered metals, namely a negative longitudinal magnetoresistance that is capable of overcoming their very pronounced orbital o...
